Life Discovery Under Water!
This is the sight at Life Discovery Book and Gift Store behind Big Apple Music in New Hartford. The rain that fell last night and this morning certainly did some damage. We can't get in the doors, and more rain is expected so it may be days before the extent of the damage can be assessed. We are thankful we are all safe and dry in our homes, and are already thinking about the next steps. Many of our Facebook Fans have commented and offered their assistance, we are so blessed to have such caring friends and family. This blog is a way for us to keep you all up to date on the store, and for you to offer your thoughts, prayers, and suggestions in a way we can save them. In the short-term, we are thinking of a space to store the merchandise we can salvage so it will be ready when the store re-opens. If you know of any space that can be used to store things please comment below.
We are confident the Lord with be with us in this difficult time, and He will provide the strength and resources we need to rebuild the store to what it was yesterday.

Please let me know if there's anything I can do. Perhaps we can go out for coffee next week and chat...
ReplyDeleteKeep thinking positively. It can be very hard and I will pray as well that God watches over you and yours.
ReplyDeletePrayers are with you! Trust in Him & He will see you through! Blessings :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was at the store this morning at 8:00, it looked like the pictures above. When I went back at noon, the waters had receded and they were draining the store. The power had not been cut yet, so I couldn't get in, but I saw merchandise that was in the back of the store floating toward the door. It's pretty safe to say that it is all gone and we will have to start over from scratch. God never said it would be easy; he only promised he would never leave me. Together we will rebuild ... in His time.
ReplyDeleteKathy, I sincerely hope and pray that the rain will stop and the waters recede very soon so that you can get into the store, asses the damage and move forward. I am not the least bit concerned about the items I have at the store. They are just "items" and can be salvaged or replaced. All of the items Ceil has there are washable too. I'll come up there in a couple of weeks after we get back and help you out in whatever way I can.
ReplyDeleteTime to relocate to higher ground????
~ HUGS~
I think it may be best to relocate to a place that isn't prone to flooding. I hate to say this because its a wonderful place, the plaza is very pretty and a lot of work was put into it. But since this has happened twice within a short time, the writing may be on the wall. Unless the owners of the plaza can come up with a plan to deter flooding in the future. Its materialistic things and thankfully no one was hurt. God is good all the time. Seek Him in prayer for your next step. God bless.
ReplyDeleteMany have asked what they can do to help. Thank you! There will likely be more asks in the future, but for now I am looking for plastic bins / containers to store merchandise that is not damaged. I will be at the store by 10 tomorrow morning if you have a bin or two I can borrow, I would appreciate if you could drop them off. Again, thank you, and God bless!
ReplyDeleteSo, here is today's update. First of all, I have to thank the angels who came to help this morning: Pastor Steve James, Judy Reilly (and friend Ben), Diane Kullmann, Melanie Clocher, and Donna Mucks. THANK YOU ALL!!!!! We have been able to pack up most of the salvageable inventory. It is in plastic bins that have been so generously donated. Now we just need to find a safe, dry place to store the inventory. Hopefully, we'll have that figured out by Monday or Tuesday so we can get stuff moved into temporary storage while we search for a storefront. Thank you all for your prayers -- they are certainly being felt. The process has been far from pleasant, but it has been made tolerable because of all of you.
